Olen joitakin päiviä sitten palauttanut päättötyöni Biola Universityyn ja odottelen tutkinnon hyväksymistä. Näihin neljään ja puoleen työn ohessa suoritettuun tutkintovuoteen on mahtunut monenlaista. On ollut monia oivalluksen hetkiä, puolinukuksissa kirjoitettuja kurssitöitä ja keskusteluja, turhautumista ja riemastumista. Kaikesta huolimatta kokemus on ollut korvaamaton!
Aloin ohimennen pohtia, kuinka monta kirjaa mahdoinkaan lukea läpi tutkinnon puitteissa. Amerikkalaiset vitsailevat toisinaan, että tohtoria merkitsevä lyhenne ”PhD” johtuu sanoista ”a Pile high and Deep”. Tosiasiassa jo maisteriksi päästäkseen saa sukeltaa melko korkeaan ja syvään pinoon!
Ohessa on kaikkien suorittamieni kurssien kirjallisuusluettelo. Kun asiaa tarkemmin tutkii, teokset vievät lähes kaksi metriä tilaa hyllystäni. Kaikkia kirjoja, lähinnä kokoelmateoksia, ei tosin luettu kannesta kanteen, mutta kirjojen lisäksi oli kahlattava läpi epälukuinen kasa PDF-artikkeleita ja muuta kurssimateriaalia.
